Welcome Back Students!

After several days (and weeks) of snow storms amidst the holidays, we are finally welcoming our students on campus for the spring semester. I have to admit, it’s been lonely here on campus without them.

For this upcoming spring semester, I look forward to seeing continued momentum from the Executive Advisory Board (EAB) of Student Government, a formal plan for integrating leadership into the curriculum and co-curricular activities that will launch for first year students in fall 2014, and to see the Class of 2018 take shape.

From a building perspective, I am excited that we will break ground on the new academic building this spring, which will showcase fabulous team-based classrooms, faculty offices, and the departments of the registrar, learning services and advising, as well as many casual meeting and lounge spaces and small team meeting rooms. In addition, we will be drafting plans to upgrade portions of the athletic center.

It seems that January is often a time of reflection, evaluating the previous year, and setting new goals. Given the financial challenges that our students face, one of my personal goals is to grow the number of endowed scholarships for our students. Related to that, we have announced a tuition freeze for next year. The College has been nationally recognized as being a great value, and we remain committed to making Nichols even more affordable for our families.

I’m looking forward to an exciting and productive spring semester, as our winter sports begin to wind down, spring sports start winding up, a plethora of activities are planned, and the Class of 2014 works to finish strong!
